Alpha 0.0.13 Changelog
Today's update is full of important foundations for the core gameplay! There are a few updates that you'll notice, but a lot are behind the scenes, still waiting to be used.
ALPHA 0.0.13 Changelog:
- The player's weapon now has energy magazines. Each one holds five shots, and can be switched out by reloading at anytime. Find your remaining ammo by looking at the HUD on the left of your screen.
- You can reload now! Run out of energy? Switch out your magazine with R.
- Enemy behavior has been improved. They won't keep flying at you once they have a clean shot. Enemies are now harder, as they have better aim and fire more often.
- Your HUD now displays your remaining health.
Moving Forward:
Next update I'd like to flesh out the enemy behavior more. Currently there is only one type of enemy, the attack drone, but future functionality needs to be built up to make living NPCs feel real. Part of this means adding a system to trigger visual actions when they reach certain parts of their path, such as stopping to converse with others. What this means right now is that each point needs a script able to broadcast information to NavMesh agents that move to it.
Enemies also need to signal better to the player that you've been spotted. Each one has a "Boredom Timer," which counts down the time between an enemy losing track of the player and that enemy returning to their post. I plan to add a visual indicator over each enemy that represents the time left on that timer.
The last goal for the next update is to improve the variety of enemies. A new type of opponent is needed that can provide suppressive fire that limits player movement. My current thought is a stationary turret, although this may change, as could the rest of the planned updates.
